The 18-team Bundesliga has the highest average match attendance of any football league in the world. Its average crowd of around 42,000 is roughly 1,000 higher than the Premier League.
These high attendances are made possible by relatively low ticket prices and large stadiums, many of which include safe-standing areas.
Unlike most other European football leagues, Bundesliga clubs are required to be majority-owned by their members under the “50+1 rule”. This rule limits outside control by investors, including foreign billionaires, although there are some grey areas in its application.
Bayern Munich are the most successful club in Bundesliga history. The second most successful club, FC Nürnberg, has won fewer than one-third of Bayerns' titles.
